The Buy Local North Central Florida campaign is designed to educate our community about the important role local businesses play in our regional economy. Independent businesses in Alachua, Marion, Levy, Gilchrist, Columbia, Suwannee, Union, Bradford, Clay, and Putnam counties may participate.
Why is Buying Local Important?
Dollars spent at locally and independently-owned businesses create a “multiplier” effect in the local economy, meaning that they are retained within our community to re-circulate amongst other local businesses to increase our region’s prosperity. Money spent at national or international corporate stores and franchises is largely shipped out of our community to be spend elsewhere. When we buy locally, we increase our community’s resilience, solidarity, and access to business ownership and decision-makers. Businesses participating in the Buy Local North Central Florida campaign are local and independent. That means that they are privately owned and not publicly traded, that at least 51% of ownership resides within North Central Florida region, and that they are not a franchise.
